The Head of the Lake School is a combined elementary and junior high school (K-9) that is located in the Skatin Community and provides educational services for the In-SHUCK-ch communities of Samahquam, Skatin and Xa’xtsa. The school also |
informally supports students taking courses by correspondence or on-line over the internet. The school was first located in the Xa’xtsa community of Tipella before a new school was built in 1998 at its current location.

The school is Band Owned and receives some of its funding from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada through the Skatin First Nation. The Head of the Lake School is governed by a Board of Education in which it has an agreement with the Skatin First Nation for the Operation and Management of the Head of the Lake School.

The Head of the Lake School has established a couple of non-profit entities in order to help carry out the daily business of the school; these entities are: Head of the Lake School Society and Sta’lha’lem Community School Society. Both entities are governed by the same Board of Education.
